Yesterday I got my radiation tatoos. Yes, they really are tatoos and are the size of a freckle. I have 4 of them--one on each side of my torso near the waist and two on my breastbone. I cannot imagine having an entire tatoo done--these four needle pricks really stung!
The radiologist uses the tatoos to line up the machines for my radiation treatments. Today I had my first whole-breast radiation. I must say I was nervous because I wasn't sure what to expect. After they took another 6-8 X-rays to verify placement, they zapped me. The radiation treatment lasted a total of 2-3 minutes and did not hurt at all. Fast and easy.
Now, a few hours later, I can feel some warmth radiating from the area they zapped. Overall, I feel great.
One radiation treatment down, 24 to go!
